ASN.1 is an ITU standard that allows one to define messages and message contents to be exchanged betweeen communicating systems in a manner that is independent of the underlying encoding of the messages. The messages may be encoded using any number of message encoding rules, including ▲Packed Encoding Rules (PER), ▲Basic Encoding Rules (BER), and ▲XML Encoding Rules (XER).
