H.265 / HEVC

H.265 / HEVC is a joint ITU-T and MPEG video compression standard that provides for improved video quality and compression over its predecessor H.264. HEVC is an acronym that stands for "High Efficiency Video Coding."

The video codec can support resolutions up to 7680x4320.

The standard was first approved in 2013 and updated several times in subsequent years.
