Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP)

RSVP is a protocol used on IP networks to control the quality of service (QoS) on the network. It allows an application to request a certain amount of bandwidth for use end-to-end between itself and the destination at the remote end. It is specified in RFC 2205 and updated by RFC 2750, RFC 3936, and RFC 4495.

RSVP is sometimes referred to as an "integrated services" (IntServ) QoS mechanism, as opposed to a "differentiated services" (DiffServ) QoS mechanism.
