H.266 / VVC

H.266 / VCC is a joint ITU-T and MPEG video compression standard that provides for improved video quality and compression over its predecessor H.265. VVC is an acronym that stands for "Versatile Video Coding."

The video codec can support resolutions up to 16K.

The standard was first approved in 2020 and updated several times in subsequent years.
